My parents didn’t show up to my high school graduation. Their reason is stupid.

It was meant to be a day of pride and celebration for Britt at her graduation, but when her parents didn’t show up, it broke my heart. Even worse was the reason they weren’t there: her stepsister broke a nail.

Britt felt alone and useless, even though she had worked hard and accomplished a lot. Things that were important to her parents were clear, and she wasn’t at the top of the list. Britt had a hard time coming to terms with their absence because she felt a lot of different feelings.

The prom date she was going on with Justin and his mother stepped in to help and were kind. But the hurt was very deep, and Britt knew she needed some time away from her family.

After many years, Britt gave her parents another chance, but the same thing happened again. Again, putting her stepsister’s wants ahead of her own, they missed her college graduation.

The sad story of Britt shows us that some people will let us down again and again, even if they get a second chance. Britt found comfort in Justin’s love and support, even though it hurt, and she learned to move on, scarred but stronger.

People you care about should hear this story. Remember that real family isn’t just blood ties, it’s the people who show up and care.
