Marriage With a Once-a-Week Showerer – When Personal Hygiene Becomes a Dealbreaker

Share

They say love is blind, but apparently it’s also smell-blind. My husband’s insistence on showering just once a week is putting our marriage to the test.

For months, I made excuses. “He’s tired after work.” “He changes clothes regularly.” But when I became pregnant, my tolerance vanished. Between heightened smell sensitivity and legitimate health concerns, I finally spoke up.

His response? A mix of gaslighting (“I never agreed to shower more”) and bizarre logic (“Showering too much makes me less manly”). His compromise – substituting alcohol wipes for actual showers – left me speechless.

Now I’m torn between respecting his autonomy and protecting my own wellbeing. Is it too much to ask my life partner to practice basic hygiene? The answer seems obvious, but love has a way of complicating even the simplest things.
