A routine welfare check in Wolcottville turned tragic when police discovered 32-year-old Rebecca Hughes and her three young daughters deceased in their home. The girls, identified as Evalynn, Allison, and Amelia, were just 8, 6, and 5 years old. As authorities continue their investigation, the focus has shifted to supporting the grieving father and raising awareness about mental health.
Jonathan Newell, the girls’ father, shared his heartbreaking experience of learning about the tragedy. He remembered initially dismissing concerns, only to face the unthinkable truth hours later. “There’s no rulebook for this kind of pain,” Jonathan said. “The emotions come in waves – anger, sadness, complete detachment from reality.”
The community has responded with an outpouring of support, raising significant funds to help with funeral arrangements. For Jonathan, this support represents his final chance to do right by his daughters. Through tears, he’s become an advocate for mental health awareness, pleading with other parents: “If you need help, please ask for it.” His message serves as a painful but important reminder in the wake of this family tragedy.
