A Milwaukee meteorologist has been dismissed from her job at CBS58 after criticizing Elon Musk’s recent actions at a public event. Sam Kuffel’s departure was confirmed a day after she made strong remarks on social media, accusing Musk of making a Nazi salute.

Musk, now leading the Department of Government Efficiency, attended a gathering at Capital One Arena after Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th U.S. President. During the event, he made a gesture that many interpreted as resembling a Nazi salute, causing a stir on social media.

Kuffel reacted by posting on Instagram, writing, “Dude Nazi saluted twice. TWO TIMES. At the inauguration.” She added an explicit message, expressing her disapproval of Musk and his supporters. In another post, she used a popular TV show GIF to reinforce her stance.

Her comments were criticized by conservative radio host Dan O’Donnell, who labeled them “vulgar” and accused her of spreading false claims about Musk.

CBS58 news director Jessie Garcia later confirmed Kuffel’s termination, stating that the station was actively seeking a new meteorologist. Kuffel had been with the network for over five years, following a stint at WAOW-TV after earning her degree from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) addressed the controversy, explaining that while emotions are running high, Musk’s gesture appeared to be an innocent motion rather than a deliberate salute. They urged people to remain calm and avoid unnecessary conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also defended Musk, stating that the accusations against him were baseless.

The incident has sparked renewed debate on the influence of social media, professional conduct, and the impact of political discussions in journalism.
