The foods and drinks we eat and drink every day are very important for living a healthy life. Even though some foods are good for us and give us nutrients we need, others can hurt our health. A well-known heart surgeon named Dr. Jeremy London recently shared his thoughts on four types of foods and drinks that we should limit or stay away from to improve our heart health.
An example of a food that leads to bad eating habits is fast food. Dr. London says that most fast food is not healthy because it is high in calories and low in important nutrients. Researchers have found that eating a lot of fast food can make you fat, give you diabetes, and even cause heart disease.
Fizzy drinks, like normal and diet beers, are another type of drink that Dr. London says you shouldn’t drink. Even diet drinks, which are often advertised as healthy options, can be bad for us because they can make us hungrier and mess up our metabolism.
Another group of foods that Dr. London says you should limit or avoid is dairy products. Some studies show that low-fat or fat-free dairy products may be good for you, but the proof is not strong enough to say for sure. Indeed, a lot of the saturated fat that people in the US eat comes from dairy products, which can lead to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s.
Lastly, Dr. London stresses how important it is to stay away from drinking drinks, which are bad for all of our cells. Even drinking alcohol in small amounts or not at all can be bad for our health. It can raise our risk of getting some cancers and other health problems.
By staying away from or limiting these foods and drinks, we can take steps to improve our heart health and general health. A healthy meal full of veggies, fruits, whole grains, and beans should be our main goal instead. We can live better lives and lower our chance of chronic diseases by making smart food choices.
