On Christmas, our house was spied on.

When my family and I got back from our Christmas vacation, our house had been egged and a strange note had been left behind. I was determined to find the person who did it, so I looked at our security video and saw that it was my own mother who did it.

When I faced her, I found years of hurt and manipulation that almost broke our relationship. My mother-in-law’s lies made her feel alone and abandoned, which made my mom even worse.

We cleaned up the mess together, which was a sign of our revived love for each other. I learnt to put my mom’s feelings first and deal with the real problems.

Gloria, Ethan’s mother, admitted to controlling my mother when Ethan talked to her about it. We told Gloria that she should make things right with my mom.

Now, our moms are getting along again. They play mahjong and bake together. Our family is better now, and we’ve learnt a lot about how to talk to each other, understand each other, and stick together.

How would you have dealt with it differently?
