A Classic Wit: A 92-Year-Old’s Funny Meeting with a Teenager

Share

I bought my dad new shoes at the mall not long ago with him. He is 92 years old. At the food court, where we were sitting to eat, I saw him watching a group of teens nearby. They were talking and laughing happily, and it warmed my dad’s heart to see how carefree they seemed.

A kid with brightly coloured hair caught my dad’s eye as we sat there. People talked about how fashion has changed over the years because of the teen’s bright green, red, orange, and blue hair. When my dad saw the teen’s bold look, he was instantly interested.

The teen saw my dad looking and asked, “What’s wrong?” with a smirk. Have you ever seen hair like this?” Then my dad laughed and said, “No, but it’s colourful!” “I like it!” They broke the ice with each other, and it was great to see them laugh together.

The kid made fun of my dad by saying, “What’s wrong, old man? You’ve never done anything crazy in your life.” “Oh, I’ve had my fair share of adventures, just in a different era!” my dad laughed. Their age difference was erased by a funny moment.

As we talked more, my dad said a bunch of funny one-liners that made us all laugh out loud. “Well, I may not have dyed my hair, but I’ve danced like nobody was watching!” my dad smiled when the teenager asked him if he had ever done anything crazy. His sureness in speaking made everyone laugh again.

With one last flourish, my dad added with a sly grin, “I got drunk once and had sex with a peacock.” Could you tell me if you are my son? The whole table laughed out loud, and I was proud of how well my dad connected with the kid. It made me feel good to remember that wit and humour can reach people of all ages.
