Ashley’s whole world fell apart when she lost Lily, her eight-year-old daughter. There were a lot of apologies and tears at the funeral, but Ashley had no idea how much grief she would feel when she got home. She was sitting in her driveway, afraid that her house would be empty, when she noticed a bright, strange tent in her garden. It didn’t look like it belonged there.
Ashley became interested and slowly made her way towards the tent. It started to hit her as she got closer what was really going on. She opened the flap with shaking hands and saw a small bundle inside. She was scared to death, but to her surprise, a happy golden retriever dog came out and wagged its tail. Ashley found a letter under the dog that had a note written in Lily’s handwriting.
Ashley read Lily’s last message through tears. In it, Lily said that she had planned for Daisy, the puppy, to be her mother’s friend and support during the hard times to come.
Ashley cried when she realised that Lily had thought of her even in her last days and left her a special gift to help her deal with the pain. There was more to the puppy than just a pet. It was a touching memory of Lily’s unwavering love and a representation of the strong bond between a mother and daughter.
