I ran away from a snowstorm and went to a stranger’s house for safety. I didn’t know that my host, Justin, knew my biggest secret. We met by chance on a plane, and he invited me to his house without warning. There, I learnt about his ties to a rival of my business.
At first, I wanted to learn about Justin’s business plans, but as I got to know him and his daughter Liv, my goals changed. I felt pressured by my boss Lori to break Justin’s trust, but I couldn’t do it. I liked how kind he was and how much he cared about his family more as I learnt more about him.
I knew I had to make things right when Liv told me she remembered how I sneaked around the house. I gave back the flash drive with Justin’s files on it and said I was sorry for what I did. To my surprise, Justin told me he had known all along about my plans and was just testing my character.
Justin gave me a second chance and asked me to stay for Thanksgiving instead of turning me in. As I accepted, I felt like I had a place to join and a reason to live.
