Jessica had a wonderful husband named John and a cute little boy named Lucas who was one year old. But her world fell apart when Laurel, her sister-in-law, told her a shocking secret: John wasn’t going to his brother’s house every day to help, he was just hungry for comfort food.
The marriage of John and Jeanne had been strong for eight years, based on confidence and routine. John, a project manager, and Jeanne, a fitness teacher, had no trouble balancing their lives. However, John’s daily trips to his brother Clarke’s house caused some concerns.
The call from Laurel changed everything. “John has been eating with us every day for six months,” she said, her voice getting weak. “It’s costing us $150 monthly.” Jeanne’s faith was broken.
When Jeanne talked to John, she found out that he missed comfort food that he hadn’t had since Lucas was born. John went to Clarke’s without telling her what he wanted. He felt bad about what he did. “I handled it wrongly.”
In order to fix things with her friends, Jeanne suggested that they cook classic meals together and split the cost of groceries. John swore to be honest. The couple got back together and started eating healthy foods and filling meals.
As the weeks went by, things got better. Jeanne mixed old favourites with brand-new ones. Now that John was being honest, he kept visiting Clarke. Over time, trust was restored.
John asked Clarke and Laurel to have dinner with him one night. “A way to say thank you,” he explained. The evening went smoothly, and stress was replaced by laughter.
John’s secret was revealed, and Laurel said she was sorry. “It brought us closer,” Jeanne said.
John gave Jeanne flowers as a treat. “I appreciate you.” Tears came out. “I appreciate you too.”
Their anniversary party made them love each other and be strong. Jeanne saw that being honest and open made their relationship stronger.
Do you believe Jeanne did a good job with what happened?
