Getting into the Christmas spirit: stores avoid controversy

Share

The argument over whether to say “Happy Holidays” or “Merry Christmas” comes up again as the holidays get closer. But some stores are happy to keep the real spirit of Christmas alive, even though the controversy hasn’t changed their minds.

Businesses like Hobby Lobby, Belk, and Nordstrom enjoy Christmas with pride and don’t feel bad about it.

The mood is set by Christian music and Sunday closings at Hobby Lobby. Belk, on the other hand, spreads Christmas cheer without resorting to clichés.

Nordstrom is thoughtful and waits to decorate until after Thanksgiving so that workers can take part.

Other stores, like Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Macy’s, JCPenney, Bass Pro Shops, Lowe’s, and Toys ‘R Us, are happy to use the word “Christmas” in their ads. It’s great that they want to keep the Christmas joy alive.

Let’s praise these stores for being brave and sticking to Christmas customs. As we go shopping, let’s remember the people who keep the spirit alive. We can get excited about Christmas again and remember what it’s really about if we all work together.
