It is said that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is thinking about leaving the US after Donald Trump beat Kamala Harris in the recent election. A royal expert says Meghan is “very upset” with the result because she has spoken out against Trump before [1].
Unlike before, when they spoke out, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stayed out of the way during the election. They worked on getting people to vote instead, but they didn’t support any one candidate ². They probably chose to stay quiet on purpose to avoid a fight, since they have already spoken out against Trump.
Editor at Large for the Daily Mail Charlotte Griffiths says Meghan may move because she doesn’t like Trump and has called him a sexist in public. “She really, deeply hated him… “She might want to leave the United States,” Griffiths said [1].
Trump has always had bad things to say about the Sussexes, especially about how they treated the late Queen. In his autobiography, Spare, he even hinted that he might take away Prince Harry’s special rights because he used drugs.
But Eric Trump played down the tension by saying that his dad “doesn’t give a damn” about Prince Harry. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams thinks that Trump probably won’t do anything very bad to the Duke, even though Harry’s memoir is controversial [1].
Griffiths says that the fact that Prince Harry just bought a house in Portugal could be a good way to get out of the situation. With Trump’s government possibly putting Harry’s safety at risk, this new home could be just what he needs [1).
