Thanks to her 13-month-old daughter Winry, Nicole Lucas Hall wants to send a strong message of love and acceptance of oneself. Winry has a rare birthmark called congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) that covers a quarter of her face. Because of this, she is on a mission to support acceptance.
At first, the medical staff thought Winry had a bruise, but they told Nicole that she was fine. Nicole knew, though, that her daughter would need to be strong and willing to talk about her differences.
Nicole knows that Winry could be bullied as she gets older, but she’s eager to help Winry have a good self-image. Nicole loves how unique Winry is and calls her daughter “happy and lively.”
Nicole hopes that telling Winry’s story will encourage parents to talk to their kids about being different, which will help them understand and empathize. Nicole hopes that by embracing Winry’s unique beauty, she can make the world a better place where all children feel respected and beautiful.
Winry’s confidence grows with every smile and laugh, and Nicole’s message hits home: everyone is stunningly beautiful because of the unique things that make them unique. Winry will follow her mom’s steady support as she discovers the world, showing her the way to love and accept herself.
