Tragedy at Niagara Falls: an unimaginable loss for a family

Chianti Means and her two young children, Roman Rossman and Mecca Means, sadly died after a trip to Luna Island. This has shocked and saddened the people of Niagara Falls, New York.

The New York State Police said they would be looking into the deaths on October 29, 2024. Near Goat Island, police were called to a report of a fight between Chianti, 33, and her two children, Roman, 9, and Mecca, 5.

Investigators found that Chianti reportedly threw her kids over the Luna Island safety rail and then jumped after them, meaning she meant for them to fall and hurt themselves.

The three people were not found despite search and rescue efforts by the State Police, the Park Police, and other organizations working together.

Bierra Hamilton, Chianti’s cousin, said that the mother of two had postpartum depression, which put an end to rumors that she had died. Bierra stressed, “Postpartum depression is real and needs a cure.”

Bierra had fond memories of Chianti and said she had a “beautiful soul” and was “full of life and wisdom.” Chianti’s social media posts gave hints that she was having mental health problems and asked for help.

Roman’s dad set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the funeral and keep the family’s memory alive. Roman would have been ten years old on January 30, 2025, so the goal is to raise $20,000 for his funeral and a memorial gathering that day.

The money will also be used to build a tribute for the three on Luna Island. John thanked everyone for their thoughts and kind words during this tough time.
