Amy Schumer is never shy when it comes to telling it like it is — especially about her film experiences. In a recent round of interviews, the comedian revisited her infamous sex scene with John Cena in the 2015 comedy Trainwreck, and her take on it was as unfiltered as ever.
In the movie, Schumer plays a woman who avoids serious relationships until she meets someone who changes her mind. Along the way, she hooks up with Cena’s character, Steven, a protein-obsessed fitness fanatic. Their scene together quickly goes from playful to outrageous, featuring lines like “I’ll fill you with protein,” and wild physical comedy.
But off-screen, Schumer admits the scene left her feeling a little awkward. While joking with Australian hosts, she said she kept her composure because Cena was “literally inside” her — a claim she immediately clarified was a joke. Still, the awkwardness clearly stuck with her, especially considering how intense the moment felt.
She described Cena’s body in the most Amy Schumer way possible, saying it felt like “a refrigerator” was pressing on her and that his backside was “not even human.” She later added, half-joking, that the scene probably meant more to him, as she didn’t get the full experience — particularly not getting to feel his private parts, something she laughingly called her “major regret.”
Cena didn’t stay quiet about it either. On Club Shay Shay, he talked about how weird it is to shoot love scenes with a room full of crew members watching. “People think it’s just the two actors,” he explained, “but there are a ton of people on set.” He said it feels anything but romantic and even called the whole process embarrassing.
Schumer later added to the fun on Instagram, writing to Cena, “That scene meant a lot to me,” and pretending to be emotionally crushed. Her message was pure comedy gold, and it perfectly captured the absurdity — and hilarity — of filming intimate moments for laughs.
